No Professional Advice

The content on this site reflects the personal experience and testing of the author on his own machines and grinders. It is not professional appliance-repair guidance, electrical advice, or manufacturer documentation. Your machine’s manual is the final authority on its operation, maintenance, and safety systems — when this site and your manual disagree, follow the manual.

Hot Equipment and Electrical Safety

Espresso involves real hazards if handled carelessly. The important ones to respect:

  • Steam and boiler pressure: Boilers run near or above 100°C under pressure. Never open, modify, or service a machine that is hot or plugged in, and never bypass a pressure-relief valve or thermal fuse.
  • Scald risk: Steam wands, group heads, and portafilters get hot enough to burn instantly. Purge wands away from hands and keep children away from a warming machine.
  • Mains electricity: Descaling, gasket changes, and OPV adjustments described here are routine for experienced owners — anything beyond that belongs with a qualified technician. Water and mains voltage share a small chassis in these machines.
  • Modifications: Mods such as OPV adjustment or PID installation can void your warranty and, done wrong, create hazards. Proceed only if you understand and accept both.

Results May Vary

Espresso is sensitive to beans, water, altitude, and equipment condition. The doses, ratios, times, and temperatures on this site reflect what worked on the author’s counter with his machines, his grinders, and his water. Your numbers will differ — that is normal, and the guides here are written to help you find your own.
